SERVICE, ROBERT W. Two items, each Signed, "RWService," to Mr. and Mrs. G. Stephen: Typed Letter * Small Photograph. The letter, encouraging Mrs. Stephen to continue in radio, promising to send a copy of his recent book [Rhymes of a Roughneck (1950)?], suggesting that Mrs. Stephen might read it on the radio, expressing pleasure at his new Fiat convertible car, and remarking that he will holiday in the South now that his new manuscript has been submitted. 1 page, 8vo; folds. The photograph, full-length portrait showing him seated with his wife on a bench, mounted to greeting card. Additionally signed by his wife, "Germaine / Service," and additionally signed and inscribed by her on the mount, "May every / Blessing of the / Christmas Season / be yours and / also a very / Happy New Year / Germaine," to right of photograph. 7 February 1950: ". . . I hope Mrs. Stephens [sic] is going on with her radio work. She has a real talent for it . . . . I am going to send you a copy of the English edition of my last book, and hope she will find something in it she can give over the air. The American-Canadian edition contained about thirty typographical errors and though otherwise a handsome book, was a disgrace to any publishing house. . . ."

Three items, each Signed, "Germaine Service" or "Germaine," to Mrs. Stephen: Two ANsS, each on a Christmas card, in English or French, giving the names of granddaughters, giving her husband's birthday as January 16 • ALS, remarking that she has been unwell since her husband died ("it was a great shock for me and what a loss; we had been married for nearly forty six years and . . . I have been so happy . . . , he was always so . . . kind, it seems to me that I have lost a part of myself."), recalling her husband's request to be buried in Brittany's Lancieux and making "his last joke" about having his memorial washed every week.
