Born in 1931 in the northern Gujarat village of Badpura, Dave is considered by many as one of the foremost Indian painters of the 20th century. He started his career as a commercial artist doing sign boards and banners, but made his mark as a fine artist by developing his signature abstract style, as seen in the current lot, which combines encaustic with oil paint techniques and calligraphy.
