Dave (born 1931), from North Gujarat, India, is best-known for his mural-sized paintings and use of unconventional materials such as encaustic in this work (a painting medium in which colored pigments are added to heated beeswax on a palette and then applied to the canvas). Dave's paintings reveal the influence of western Abstract Expressionists and incorporate elements of Indian metaphysics.
