Additional Details

All three images from Swann Galleries, New York, 2000.
This group includes two images of the statue of Lady Teye (a detail and her full length) as well as a bust of an uknown Pharoh of Egypt. Sheeler began taking photographs in 1910 as a means of supporting himself, however eventually the medium became an important part of his artistic expression. In 1942 the artist went to work for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. One of his projects was to photograph the museum's collection of Egyptian art for two of its publications, Egyptian Statuettes and Egyptian Statues (both 1945). The detail of Lady Teye appears in the first title, plate 24 and on the cover (detail).
