Additional Details

Charles Sheeler (1889-1965) was a pioneer American artist whose contributions as a painter and photographer are equally significant. His biographers, Theodore Stebbins, Jr. and Norman Keyes, Jr. wrote, "In 1930 and 1931 he went on to make some of his finest paintings, all with compositions based on photographs, including "View of New York" -- a final look at his shrouded view camera and the New York studio he was giving up.
