Additional Details

Curious piece by the artist who epitomized down-home Americana during the first half of the century. During the early 1930s Sloane did contract work for Steeplechase Park in Coney Island, including painting the 72-horse carousel owned by the Tilyou family. Sloane produced three variations of this map, two for members of the Tilyou family, and this one for Jimmie and Louise Onorato. This is the Onorato copy with their names boldly inscribed and incorporated into the work near the center of the image. Onorato was the general manager of Steeplechase Park at the time. The map is described by Onorato in volume 2 of his published diary, Steeplechase Park, Coney Island, 1928-1964.<
