Dil was one of the classic Art Deco artists who helped propel French advertising to great heights between the wars. Here, advertising one of the major events in the yearly Parisian calendar of activities for art students, he combines classical imagery with a modern technique. Dil places a photomontage of a couple dancing beneath the ruins of a Greek temple and he sets the ruins off in white against a dark background for maximum effect. The text is carefully organized along the vertical axis formed by the columns, giving the image an elegant majesty.
