Additional Details

Various discoveries and positions are noted, like Captain Wedell's February 20, 1823 southward foray towards the Antarctic, and Captain Parry's 1827 positioning at Ross's Island in the Arctic. In the North American west United States encroaches into present day British Columbia as far north as Observatory Inlet and Stuart's Lake. In present day Montana along the Yellowstone River the positioning of Pompey's Castle is shown as described in the Lewis and Clark Journals. This map was apparently used during sea travel by a previous owner. In neat and detailed manuscript are shown the 1858 track of the Mail Steamer between Australia and Europe (track ending in the Red Sea near Suez), the 1840 track of the ship St. Vincent between England and Australia, and the 1862-63 track of the ship Orwell between England and Van Diaman's Land (Tasmania). Not in Rumsey.
