The manuscript is divided into two sections. The first, on pathology, occupies roughly three-quarters of the volume and is dated 1819 at the end; the second is devoted to therapeutics. According to a note on the front flyleaf, "the title page opposite was done by the somewhat celebrated Sylvester Graham, whose name is connected with 'Graham bread' [i. e., crackers] June, 23 1873 Wm P. Vail."
