one of only two artist's proofs from a total edition of ten copies, Signed by Snodgrass and Mahon. The poem is reprinted from Snodgrass's Pulitzer Prize-winning debut book, Heart's Needle, 1959. Robert Lowell, Snodgrass's teacher at Iowa, urged Knopf to publish it and hailed it "a breakthrough for modern poetry." The book is a beautiful tribute to the poem and to the memory of Snodgrass who died early this year.
