Additional Details

A finely detailed bird's-eye view in which the maritime city of Boston was artistically rendered by master photographers Southworth & Hawes. This rich salted paper photograph is apparently unique; the only known existing prints of Boston by this Brahmin partnership were created using albumen paper. In 1872 the cityscape was irrevocably changed when the Polk Street Church (at left) was destroyed in a fire.
