Jarvis, Jr., explaining that he cannot advise him on American colonial commerce because he is engaged in preparing to deliver a lecture on the subject, and inviting him to attend. 1 1/2 pages, 4to, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet; lower half mounted to larger sheet (but letter still legible), faint scattered stains, folds. "I have received your letter, making inquiry respecting the early commerce of the United States, by which I suppose you mean the colonial commerce. It is a highly interesting subject, to which I have paid a good deal of attention . . . .
"On Friday next . . . I shall deliver a Lecture at the Lowell Institute on the 'Colonial Trade,' which may afford you some hints, tho it is of a general nature, & intends to explain the monopoly exercised by England over the trade. . . ."
