63x471/2 inches. Alliance Graphique, Paris.
Condition A-: creases and wrinkles in margins and image. Paper.
Another minimal, extremely daring image. Against a black background, which so subtly changes from black to a deep maroon that it is almost impossible to see, the only image is the yellow oil pouring from a can and forming the word sécurité. The sans-serif typography, and the play with typographic size and color show Cassandre's familiarity with the Bauhaus', avant-garde design principles. The radiant, almost electric, blue glow that emanates off the flow of oil is the same color Cassandre uses for his signature, which is in the lower right corner. Rigorously geometric, with the name of the brand making an angle to attract the eye, it is probably the purest, but also the strongest, image ever designed for motor oil. Mouron pl. 30, Suntory 47.
