"I'm working too hard to write a letter. 160,000 words out of 200,000 are completed. Should have the draft done in a month. Good title, 'Grapes of Wrath.' Be seven or eight hundred pages. Probably stinks but there's a lot of it. It's by far the largest job I've taken on and probably my last novel, at least in any novel form I know now.
"Anyway I'll be glad when it is done. Hardly moved a day since May 15. By now I'm a complete monomaniac on the subject which is not a broad way to live. Well I'll be done by New Years. I hope. We're moving back into the mountains. Bought a hill ranch high up. . . ."
