The Stenberg Brothers revolutionized the concept of the movie poster in the 1920s. They were also prominent figures in Moscow's artistic Avant-garde circles, working in a variety of mediums, from Constructivist sculpture to theater design and architecture. The experimental Karmeny Theatre, founded in Moscow in 1914 by the Russian director Aleksandr Tairov, strove for a synthesis of all of the theatrical arts, including ballet, opera, mime, music and drama. This poster promotes a short run the troupe had in Paris in 1923. It is the only Stenberg poster ever produced for use outside of the Soviet Union. Avant-garde p. 121, Theaterplakate 185.
