Stern's magnificent oversized print features the famously compelling actress in larger-than-life proportions. Monroe's definitive red strokes on the contact sheets Stern provided her are unusual in that they are the sitter's own edits and reveal how Monroe desired to be seen.

In the painful last days of her life, the insecurities of this American icon were brought into sharper focus. The painterly drama of the red streak highlights her ethereally-rendered nude form. In retrospect, the lines have an odd Christ-like appearance that portends her final performance for the camera, and what would be characterized as the famous "last sitting."
