From the photographer; to the present owner.

Bert Stern was the last photographer to shoot Marilyn. During the course of three sessions in July 1962, which took place at the Bel Air Hotel, Los Angeles, he shot an astonishing 2,500 photographs.

Marilyn herself edited the photographs by marking them with a red X on the contact sheets. After her death, Stern created compelling prints in an oversized format. The resulting image--soft, poetic, and ethereal--captures Marilyn's fragile nature while the superimposed X, which recalls a crucifix, adds another layer of symbolism to his portrait.
