Autograph Letter Signed, "Steuben," to John Porteous, sending a draft on Benjamin Walker for £200 [not present], explaining that his need is due to having purchased cattle and having failed to sell land, and promising to visit as soon as possible. 1 page, 4to, with integral address leaf; address leaf inlaid, small hole from seal tear repaired with paper verso, folds. "In Expect[at]ion of . . . Your having received the payment of the draft on Coll. Benj. Walker of 100 £ . . . I take the Liberty to trouble You again by inclosing an other draft . . . on the Same Gentleman.
"The neccessaire [sic] acquisition of fourty [sic] H[e]ads of Cattel on one Side, and the disapointement [sic] in Selling 5 or 6 hunderd [sic] acres of Land on the other, obliges me to have recours[e] to you . . . .
