". . . [Y]our sympathetic and kind review in the Memorial Diplomatique . . . appeared just when my editor had given up all hope of seeing any word of our work in Paris. Except for yours and Voltaire's . . . , nothing else appeared in Paris as far as I know. Being away, I . . . must rely on your kindness to keep me up-to-date. . . ."
With--Printed program for Strindberg's funeral, held on May 19, 1912, containing two prayers attributed to Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie and Johan Olof Wallin. 4 pages, small 8vo. 1912.
In 1884, Strindberg's first collection of short stories was published in Sweden (Giftas [Getting Married]). The book contained a preface in which Strindberg voiced support for women's rights, and also 12 stories whose characters were involved in various sorts of marriages, including some in which the women were presented as being equal to men. Soon after, Strindberg was prosecuted for "blasphemy against God or mockery of God's word or sacrament"--a charge of which he was later acquitted.
