Additional Details

This appears to be a modified second edition of Stucchi's Grande Atlante Universale published in Turin. The first edition was published in Milan in 1826 with 13 maps. In this copy the first 7 maps are revised editions of maps appearing in the first edition - with both a Milano presso l'incisore Stucchi imprint below border on right and a new Torino presso Gio. Battista Maggi imprint below border on the left. The last 4 maps are new maps - with Italy by Stanislao Stucchi but the remaining three by A. [Achille?] Stucchi. There are 3 maps in this atlas of North American interest. The map of the World shows a large North America with the Missouri and Columbia rivers clearly delineated; the map of Oceania shows virtually the whole of North America; the map of North America is one of the few that gives the continent the name "Colombia" in its title. No copies of this 1833 (2nd?) edition located at American institutions. Not in Rumsey.
