SUE FULLER
New York, New York!

Color lithograph, 1950. 540x395 mm; 21 1/4x15 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 26/30 in pencil, lower margin. A superb impression of this extremely scarce lithograph, with strong colors.

Sue Fuller (1914-2006) was a committed student of the arts, having studied with Hans Hoffman in Massachusetts in 1934, with Josef Albers at privately arranged Bauhaus classes and under Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17 in 1943-44. She also wrote several articles, including one on the colors prints of Mary Cassatt for the Magazine of Art in 1950 and an article entitled "Twentieth Century Cat's Cradle" for Crafts Horizon in 1954; the latter discusses string and knot patterns that recall her art, the present print especially. Her geometric fascination certainly began, if not encouraged, with Albers and continued through her extensive knowledge of Constructivist artists.
