Additional Details

a fine, nearly untouched copy. number 49 on laid arches paper from a total edition of 115. It is also the first book illustrated by the surrealist husband and wife team, the French-American Goetz and his Dutch wife, Boumeester, and their only collaboration with Hugnet. Shortly after this work was published, the two, members of the French Resistance, were forced to flee Paris when their underground activities (forged papers for a Czech poet) led to the arrest of Raoul Ubac and fellow Surrealists. Hugnet lived on the boulevard de Montparnasse, below Bucher's gallery and had published numerous works with him.
