first naogeorgus editions of the letters of the Neoplatonist Synesius (d. circa 414), and the letters attributed to the 6th-century B.C. Sicilian tyrant Phalaris and shown by Richard Bentley to be forgeries. Thomas Naogeorgus or Kirchmair (circa 1508-63) was a Protestant cleric known for his Latin plays attacking the papacy.
