Sangrinus, Angelus (1500-1593)
Speculum & Exemplar Christocolarum Vita.

Rome: Bartholomaei Bonfadini, 1587.

Second edition, quarto, illustrated with engraved title and fifty-two plates; bound in full contemporary parchment, tooled in gilt, later endleaves, leaves of first signature misbound; small ink stain to bottom margin of about half of the pages causing the paper to become brittle in that area; 8 1/2 x 6 1/4 in.

The first edition of this biography of Saint Benedict appeared with only six engravings, and was much shorter. The tale is composed in verse by a monk at Monte Cassino, Benedict's home abbey.
