First edition, quarto, ten parts bound together, consisting of general engraved title in German, thirty full-paged hand-colored engravings (numbered continuously 1-30), each colored and highlighted with metallic pigments; the text following in German only [this work was also published in German and Latin with Latin title, Fossilium Metalla et Res Metallicas], text printed typographically (forty pages); verso of final leaf with catchword, "Tabv-"; edited by Johann Michael Seligmann; bound in contemporary mottled calf, with decoratively patterned turquoise paste-paper endleaves, neatly rebacked, ex libris Bertie Greatheed with his armorial bookplate pasted inside front board, 9 3/4 x 8 in.

Hoover 728; Schuh 4322; Ward & Carozzi 1980 & 1981 (with twenty-six plates). According to G.R. Boehmer's Bibliotheca Scriptorum Historiae Naturalis, 1788 (vol. I, part one, page 59) this work was issued in twenty-eight parts (each part illustrated with three plates) between 1753 and 1765. C.G. Kayser, in his Vollständiges Bücher-Lexicon, 1835 (vol. 5, page 105) cites an edition of 1762 with a total of forty-six plates, copies generally appear with a varying number of plates and are rarely found with all twenty-eight parts present.
