Schweigger, Salomon (1551-1622)
Kurtzer Ausszug der Reysbeschreibung nach Constaninopel und Jerusalem.

Onolzbach: Johann Lentzen, 1660.

Oblong 12mo in 6's, title with "Constantinopel" printed xylographically; woodcut author portrait on A2 recto; illustrated with text woodcuts on nearly every page and an additional 6 folding woodcuts; bound in a leaf of medieval manuscript waste from a large Latin work decorated with red and blue initials; 5 1/8 x 6 in.

This abridgement of Schweigger's original work on Constantinople and Jerusalem rises to the level of a children's picture book. Each opening has two large woodcuts that dominate the page with 6 or so lines of text beneath. The only pages without woodcut illustrations occur as the occasional final verso leaf at the end of a chapter. We could trace no other copies at auction and Worldcat lists two copies worldwide, at the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin and the Suna Kirac Library in Istanbul.
