South Carolina-born Scott is known for her genre paintings of African American life. She studied with Robert Brackman at the Corcoran School of Art and became well-known in Charleston for her paintings and involvement in the theater. In the 1960s she stepped back from painting to raise her son. When she resumed, the work focused on historic Tallahassee.
