Shirley, James (1596-1666)
The Coronation: A Comedy.

London: Printed for Thom. Coates for Andrew Crooke, 1640.

First edition, quarto, title page falsely attributes authorship to John Fletcher (1579-1625); ex libris the British Shakespearian actor John Philip Kemble (1757-1823) with "First edition" on the title page in his hand; this copy released from Kemble's normal treatment, window-paning each page with extended margins; margins cropped as a result, affecting the first word of the title; bound in full modern crushed red morocco ruled and lettered in gilt by the French Binders of Garden City, New York; small dashes in ink throughout the text, seemingly noting line breaks for actors; repaired hole affecting a few letters to D1; purchased from William Salloch in 1971; 7 x 4 1/4 in.

STC 22440; Pforzheimer 923.

From the Ken Rapoport Collection.
