1) Eric Ambler's Journey into Fear, London: Hodder & Stoughton, [1940]; the author's copy with typed sticker to that effect on front cover with notation in Ambler's hand "1st UK edition," with three typed lines crossed out, "revised and corrected for Heinemann/Octopus edition in September 1977"; two-line signed dedication in author's hand to title, likely meant to replace the original dedication, which is struck out in the same pen; the Montaigne quote on verso of the dedication leaf also circled in pen with a small annotation; in publisher's cloth (slightly shifted) and tattered jacket.

2) W. Somerset Maugham's Of Human Bondage, New York: Doubleday, Doran & Co., 1939, first trade edition illustrated by Randolph Schwabe, signed by Maugham on ffep; bound in very good original cloth in a well-preserved jacket.
