Juan Antonio Cantova (1686-1731), an Italian-born Jesuit missionary, was killed by native peoples of the Caroline Islands in the Western Pacific while he was attempting to convert them to Christianity. His efforts to dislodge the local power of Mogmog in Ulithi Atoll and the regional dominance of Yap lead to his demise.
