Folio, a large collection of pro-San Marino manuscript documents, letters, and printed material all produced during the period when the independent Italian Republic was occupied by the Papal Legate of Ravenna, Cardinal Giulio Alberoni (1664-1752), which took place between 17 October 1739 and 5 February 1740, when Pope Clement XII restored San Marino's independence; the volume, which contains original correspondence, short handwritten pieces, pamphlet-length and longer printed works, broadsides, and other material, begins with a history of San Marino and chronicles the period of the siege during the final three months of 1739 through its end in February 1740; manuscript documents in different scribal hands throughout; printed works in different formats, some small, others larger than the volume and folded; all nicely preserved in original parchment over boards; 10 3/4 x 8 in.
