Surius, Laurentius (1523-1578)
Commentarius Brevis Rerum in Orbe Gestarum, ab Anno Salutis MD. usque in Annum M.D. LXXIIII.

Cologne: Apud Gervinum Calenium & haeredes Joannis Quentelii, 1586.

Octavo, some browning to contents, bound in full contemporary parchment with large gilt arms on both covers, 6 1/2 x 4 in.

This work of Surius, a Carthusian scholar from Lübeck, recounts the history of religious disputes beginning in 1500. It contains references to Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, and also discusses events in Mexico and Florida (pages 509-515). Despite the title, the text was continued up to 1586 by Dutch theologian Michael von Isselt.
