T. J. F.FRENCH LINE / WINTER CRUISES. 1939.
11x21 inches.
Condition A-: darkening along top edge; minor foxing in image. Silk-screened subway card.
A rare and unusual American poster for the famed French ocean liner with an image that appears to have been lifted directly from A. M. Cassandre's poster. The Normandie<> only made two cruises to Rio De Janiero. The first time it sailed on February 5, 1938, on a cruise which lasted for only 22 days. The success of the first voyage prompted this second cruise a year later. On August 28, 1939, the Normandi arrived in New York from Le Havre, France, on the very day that Germany invaded Poland. She stayed docked in New York, on the North side of pier 88 until she burned and capsized on February 9, 1942.
