TADANORI YOKOO (1936 - ) CIGAR CLUB. 1997. 401/4x281/2 inches. Condition A. Paper. Yokoo initiated an artistic revolution in Japan, introducing pop art into Japanese graphics. From 1965, when he first found his trademark style, he produced crazy images, mixing Japanese and Western imagery with the most daring and improbable layouts. In the 1980s he turned to painting, and he returned to designing posters in the 1990s when he began to use computers. This opened the way for his intricate collage technique to contain even more elaborate and crazy images. The four lots of his posters on offer in this auction were created between 1995 and 1997, and show how prolific he was and how ever-changing his inspiration could be. Yokoo p. 135.
