A 4.5-inch circular cloth mission emblem featuring the god Apollo, an outline of an eagle with stars and stripes, planets of the solar system, and the crew last names. It is one of the special crew name initial emblems and has "EC" for Eugene Cernan just above the shoulder of Apollo. A Typed Letter Signed by Cernan matted within the frame reads: "This Apollo 17 crew patch, that I have signed on the reverse, 'Flown to the Moon,' was carried to the Lunar surface during the historic flight of Apollo 17, December 7-19, 1972." The letter is boldly signed: "Gene Cernan." An additional Typed Letter Signed by Cernan with identical wording has a color image showing the inscription on the back of the emblem.
