T.D. SKIDMORE
A Hawaiian welcome. One-panel cartoon illustration likely published in Collier's Magazine, c. 1940. Mixed media on paper. 394x356 mm; 15 1/2x14 inches (image), framed to 24 3/4x22 1/2 inches. Signed "T. D. Skidmore" in lower right image. Inscription in lower left margin, "To my good friend Caruero - T.D. Skidmore."

An unchacteristically humorous work by Skidmore, whose images are typically idealistic figures in heavy outline. This cartoon is done in the style typically seen on the covers of Collier's, with simplified facial features, exagerrated expressions, and loose linework.

Skidmore was born in Brooklyn and had a prolific career from 1910-1945. He created illustrations for numerous publications including The Saturday Evening Post, and American Magazine.
