THÉODORE GÉRICAULT
Passage du Mont Saint-Bernard.

Lithograph, 1822. 355x415mm; 14x16 1/4 inches, wide margins. Third state (of 4). Published by A.V. Arnault. From Vie Politique et Militaire de Napoléon. A very good impression.

This lithograph represents Napoleon and his troops crossing the Alps at the Saint_Bernard pass during the campaign against the Austrian army in Italy in 1800. Napoleon's quick maneuvering through the Alps caught the Austrians, who were laying seige to Genoa, by surprise and he won a decisive battle at Marengo which led to his installation as First Consul and ultimately Emperor of France. Delteil 44.
