Publicity materials for a performance of the coming-out comedy "Norman Is That You?"
12 items in one folder, various sizes; 2 photos with moderate staining, otherwise minimal wear. Washington, June 1973 and undated.

"Norman Is That You?" by Ron Clark and Sam Bobrick told the story of a Jewish couple's efforts to accept their son's homosexuality. It debuted in 1970 and soon spawned a version with a mostly Black cast at the Ebony Showcase Theater in Los Angeles. These publicity materials are for the Washington touring production of the Black version of the play directed by Danny Simon, starring "That Old Black Magic" singer Billy Daniels as the family patriarch in denial, and Kyle Johnson as his son. Included in the packet are a two-page press release; a page of manuscript notes for the National Theatre ushers ("souvenir books stressed on way IN, recordings stressed on way OUT"); a Xerox of notes for the theater's billing sheets describing it as the play's "Original Black Version"; and 9 press photographs of the cast, all well-captioned on verso in pencil.
