A Streetcar Named Desire won Tennessee Williams the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1948 and its stage adaptation was among the most popular and critically successful plays of the century. Starring Marlon Brando and Jessica Tandy in a 3-city tour that ended at the Barrymore Theatre on Broadway, it claimed the New York Drama Critics' Circle Best Play and won Tandy the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role as Blanche duBois. Mielziner Inscribed the matte "For Wendy O. Williams [Sheard's maiden name, not the punk icon] From Her Friend Jo Mielziner."
