A WPA artist, Hios served as a combat photographer and artist for the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. His work was included in "NYC WPA Art" at Parsons School of Design, 1977. The current work was created while the artist was employed by the New York City WPA; he also created a lithograph of the same subject titled "Brooklyn Bridge Workers."
