THEO MUYR WATERMAN C/F. Circa 1955. 501/2x35 inches. Bollmann, Zurich. Condition A. Fountain pens turned streamlined after the Second World War. The most influential and emblematic of this new class of designed writing implements was the Parker 51, designed by Moholy-Nagy, in 1946. All of the major manufacturers in the pen world rose to meet this new design standard, including Waterman. This poster uses elements of 1950s pop-culture style; saturated sharp colors and stylization of the hand but it remains efficient, well built and well balanced, with a black rectangle where the product is shown and a white line indicating the name of the brand. The hand, which turns to blue over black adds a little sophisticated touch to the composition. Muyr designed many poster in Switzerland in the 1950s, primarily for Bally.
