"Paris was the third volume of Zola's great trilogy, Rome, London, Paris, and depicted such aspects of Parisian life as the political machinations of those in power and the squalor of the poor . . . [Steinlen] created a powerful political image with a mythic view of the capital, seething with corruption, violence, and lust" (Cate & Gill p. 126). It is one of Steinlen's largest posters.
