Mezzotint, 1760. 475x350 mm; 18 3/4x13 3/4 inches, full margins. Second state (of 2), with the text. Published by the artist, London. From Life-Sized Heads. A very good impression of this scarce mezzotint.

We have found only three other impressions at auction in the past 30 years.

Frye (circa 1710-1762) was an Anglo-Irish artist, best known for his portraits in oil and pastel, including some miniatures as well as mezzotint engravings. Born in Ireland, he apprenticed as an artist in London during the 1720s and remained there through much of his career. He was also an early entrepreneur, patentee and manufacterer of English porcelain as the co-founder of the Bow Porcelain Factory in London in the mid-1700s. Chaloner Smith 6; Russell 6.
