THOMAS HART BENTON
Down the River.

Lithograph, 1939. 318x252 mm; 12 1/2x10 inches, full margins. Edition of 250. Signed in pencil, lower right. Published by Associated American Artists, New York. A superb, richly-inked impression.

According to the artist, this lithograph was based on drawings made during a 1939 float trip on the White River in the Ozarks. Though the river was ultimately engulfed by the Bull Shoals Dam, Benton took twice yearly--spring and summer--float trips on the river during the 1930s. The boy seen from behind in the foreground is the artist's son, T. P. Benton. Fath 33.
