303/4x243/8 inches.
Condition B: paper loss in upper left margin; tears in margins, some affecting image; minor staining in margins and image; vertical and horizontal folds. Paper.
Heine was involved in many different projects that related to an artist's freedom of expression and creation. He was a member of the 11 Scharfrichters (The Eleven Executioners) which was an avant-garde cabaret, and he also designed posters for other progressive periodicals. Here, in a none-too-subtle but deftly handled allegory he depicts a naked young artist, freed from her shackles, trying to escape from a gigantic, grim-looking German eagle. DFP 1220.
