Additional Details

By 1783, the consequences of war had forced Congress to meet in various temporary locations, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Lancaster, York [PA], Princeton, Annapolis, and Trenton. On October 21, 1783, Congress resolved to erect buildings at two separate locations on both the Potowmac and Delaware rivers, and on December 20, 1784, Congress appropriated funds for the buildings. The Capitol Building in Washington was not completed until 1800.
