This leaf, mostly concerning politics, reads: "It happens to one that those things which now must engage the attention of men - as politics and the daily routine, are, it is true, vital functions of human society - best thought we unconsciously performed like the corresponding functions of the physical body." Then, struck out: "In a found state - a wise man is as unconscious of movements in the body as he is of the circulation of the blood."
