THÉODORE MAURISSET
La Daguerrotypomanie.

Lithograph, circa 1839. 252x370 mm; 10x14 1/2 inches. A very good impression of this scarce lithograph.

This French lithograph celebrates the sudden and immnse popularity of Daguerreian photography, developed by Louis Daguerre, in the late 1830s in Paris and, already by the 1840-50s, widespread throughout Europe and America. On August 19, 1839, Dauguerre had relinquished his patent on the process, causing a great rush among opportunityseekers eager to earn a living by it.
