TITO CORBELLA (1885-1966) ALA LITTORIA-S.A. 1935.
26 3/4x18 3/4 inches, 68x47 cm. I.G.A.P., Rome.
Condition B / B+: sharp creases and foxing in margins and image; tears and pin-holes in margins; horizontal folds. Paper.
In 1934, Mussolini conglomerated all of the small Italian airline companies (including those from the Italian colonies of Libya and Albania) into one larger entity, Ala Litoria. Here, in a pure Art Deco style, Corbella depicts one of the three Savoia Marchetti SM-74s that were built for the company flying past the obelisk Mussolini erected for himself at the Foro Italico, in Rome. This is the smaller format. Bolaffi p. 65.
