The coarse features and the style of cross-hatching in the cuurent work seem entirely characteristic of Stimmer. Similar winged putti heads appear in woodcuts designed by Stimmer which surround text and images in Johann Fischart's Neue Künstliche Figuren Biblischer Historien<>, Basel 1576 (see Stimmer<>, Basel, 1984, p. 186-191, no. 66).
